Singing Tree (Hammered Dulcimer and Double Bass) – 10:30 a.m. Friday (Feb. 20). DC Comics Artists Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner – 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday (Feb. 20). Ringling College of Art and Design hosts a free public presentation by comics' power couple Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner in conjunction with Selby Gallery's exhibition, "The Great American Graphic Novel." The dynamic duo will talk about their work and the inside scoop on their profession. Light refreshments will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the presentation at 6:30 in the Selby Lecture Hall at the rear of the Selby Gallery. Free.

WSLR Hosts Community Contra Dance – 7:30 p.m. Friday (Feb. 20). WSLR continues its monthly contra dance series at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota. There will be instructional walkthroughs starting at 7:30 p.m., with regular dancing at 8 p.m. The Palmetonians will provide the music, and Kristin Farrier will be the caller. Tickets are $8, available at wslr.org or by calling 894-6469. Students get in at half price; kids 12 and under free.

Community Yard Sale in Palmetto Historical Park – 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 21). More than 30 tables will be set up selling treasures and bargains of all kinds. Word of Mouth BBQ will be on site selling sandwiches and hot dogs. Alex's Lemonade Stand will be raising funds to help fight childhood cancer. The park buildings including the Agricultural Museum will be open for free self-guided tours. Palmetto Historical Park is at 515 10th Ave. W. 723-4991.

Award-winning author John Gery – 7-8 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 24). State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota will host author John Gery, who will give a poetry reading in the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. Free. Gery has published six volumes of poetry, along with critical essays on a wide range of poets, and whose work has been translated into seven languages. 752-5441; scf.edu.
